This project was inspired by being asked to write a short piece on Gerda, a giant goddess from northern mythology with whom I have a relationship, for the Moon Books collaboration Naming the Goddess. The delightful challenge of this piece was to write no more than 1000 words with no footnotes or references, but to capture the essence of the goddess in a way that would be accessible to those who knew nothing about her. I decided to take this idea forward for all of the goddesses of the Northern Traditions I work with primarily as a personal atlas, but I hope that others may find some inspiration here too. Ultimately, the Northern gods may be added too.
This work aims to be factually correct in the sources cited, but acknowledges that the gods are so much bigger than the fragments of lore we have remaining to us and makes no apology for including personal experience from myself and others.
